IPS is a consulting firm specializing in food, dairy and beverage packaging project development, line design/layout, equipment identification/specification, procurement assistance, planning for functional line control, implementation support, and overall project management. Our expertise is in the packaging area of most production lines, from finished product through all aspects of package filling, accumulation, collation, case packing, and palletizing. Our focus is to develop and implement immediate or phased packaging line changes or plans with our clients, to bolster production efficiency, improve flexibility and increase volume potential.
We are primarily hired by food companies directly, or sub-contracted as a specialist by larger engineering and construction firms, to develop and coordinate packaging through palletizing related activities. Our projects are typically broken down into phases, which may include conceptual design, final design, implementation, and start-up through commissioning. Depending on client preferences, IPS has participated in numerous feasibility studies, capital appropriation submittals, special machinery adaptations or developments with “qualified” vendors, and detailed equipment shop checkouts (i.e. – thorough machine testing with all product types before shipment). This includes master planning for full facility build-out, developing bid packages, coordinating mechanical, electrical and control contractor activities on-site, organizing vendor training sessions, driving full-line start-up/debug efforts, and providing extensive production ramp-up support through commissioning.
IPS was founded in 1992, with a current staff of seven full-time employees. During the past eleven years, we have developed a strong and diversified clientele, with a majority of work predicated upon referrals and repeat business. In addition, we have a number of non-binding strategic alliances in place with A. & E. firms, construction/general contractors, process consultants, controls firms, packaging materials specialists, and mechanical installation contractors, throughout the United States, parts of Canada, and Continental Europe. This allows IPS to remain highly specialized, maintain low overhead, and provide quick responses, while being able to further recommend proven complimentary resources (if so requested by our clients), to address other project needs and risks outside the packaging through palletizing area.
A key point of clarification is that IPS does not represent, sell, or manufacture packaging machinery. We typically work on a time and expense basis according to specific work scopes, schedules, and cost estimates per phase. This allows us to be a neutral, objective, application-oriented resource, capable of determining and recommending what we believe are the best-suited considerations to compliment our client’s internal capabilities and meet their specific needs.
